No more hospitals (guest blogger - Micki George)

Rachel left Camden Clark Memorial Hospital (CCMH) to return home on Monday, December 5th.  She was admitted to the hospital on Monday, November 28th after experiencing a seizure at home.  Rachel was receiving medications to prevent any further seizures during her stay at CCMH.  She also received hospice services and transferred to a "serenity room" to provide comfort and privacy.

Rachel is now receiving hospice care in the comfort of her home.  Her wishes are to be home, where she can be with her girls and be surrounded by their happy giggles and hugs & kisses.

She is being cared for around the clock, never a second is she alone.  Mom and I have been reading facebook posts and cards to her, letting her know how many people are thinking and praying for her.

Rachel has been fighting since May 2009 and her courage has touched so many family members and friends (new & old).   Her long journey is nearly over.  Rachel is resting, her pain is under control.  She will not be going back to any hospital.

  1. Rachel is in my thoughts many days. I have a daughter the same age as her youngest and followed her story since they were born. She is a special person who has touched many even though she may have never met them. She is in my prayers as is her family and girls.

  4. Rachel, You have had an amazing journey, that had some lows and many highs along the way, never I have I seen someone in your situation fight with every fiber or her being, with the utmost grace, courage and determination as you have given throughout your ordeal. I know how much you mean to your sister and family...For over 8 years, I have stayed up talking with Micki, about her family and mine, granted we usually had to catch up for all of the missed weekends where we couldn't talk, due to our drill schedules, but it was never dull, and I have seen how dedicated she is to you and the family through all of this. You make all of us proud to call you a friend, sister, daughter, wife, mother, but most of all a "FIGHTER"...I have never met you in person, but I sure feel that I know you from the stories, pictures and videos that I have heard or seen....Please know that you will always be in our thoughts and prayers no matter where you may be....I am glad that you will get to be home with your girls, which are the most important thing in the world to you...Hugs from me and my family and we will be praying for a Christmas Miracle....Love ya all...

  5. Rachel, you and I don't know each other but share the bond of motherhood. I too am the mother of two young girls. I am simply amazed at your courage and determination to fight your illness to be with them. Our girls are worth every fight in the world. I pray that you find peace and that your daughters grow up strong knowing their mommy was a fighter. They will always be proud of you, Rachel.

  7. Rachel, I echo the thoughts of everyone else, and just wanted to add one more thing, for what it is worth: I found your sense of humor to be amazing. With all the cr*p loaded on you, you still had the ability to make me laugh just as much as I was sad or worried about you. That's a rare gift.

  17. Thank you for keeping us updated. I cannot imagine the pain you all are feeling though I can a bit due to being a former oncology nurse and watching my sweet mother succumb to the ravages of this horrible disease. Rachel's fight has made me want to educate my own family more about the Lynch Syndrome gene that we also have. My prayers are with all of this sweet family. I pray for comfort for all this very minute.

  18. Rachel, I'm not sure what to say more than I only know you through the OBBC, though we both posted so rarely on the newer version. But, I just heard your story, and I want you to know that I am praying for you and your sweet girls. I pray you are all able to find comfort, joy and love in one another's smiles, giggle and touches.

  21. I am 29 years old and have been diagnosed with breast cancer, ease of treatment and a similar story, except for my first acceptance as a rejection of herbal medicine. I was not part of the Perseid movement and did not really build relationships with any of them, I just believed in their operation. I say this because it was during the use of Dr. Itua herbal medicine that I now attest that herbal medicine is real, the phytotherapy Dr. Itua heal my breast cancer which I suffered for 2 years. Dr. Itua herbal medicine is made of natural herbs, with no side effects, and easy to drink.
